Flying to a New Life

The trip got off to a bad start. While Delta’s website states that flights to Asia can have two bags at 70lbs each, the clerks insist it’s only 50lbs. Here is extra fee #1.
With only one hour and ten minutes between landing in Tokyo and taking off in Tokyo, I was still in Minneapolis and my plane left an hour and half late. I succumbed to the idea that I would have to overnight in Tokyo. Miss all flights to Nakhon Si Thammarat the next day, have to overnight in Bangkok, and then purchase a new ticket to my final destination. They say that every thing worth while comes at a price with struggles, well this trip must be pretty amazing to have these problems already. I was not looking forward to lugging my two 70lb bags (overweight), backpack, and rolling carry-on (also overweight) all over Tokyo and Bangkok.
The pilot pushed the gas and we made it with 10 minutes to spare before my departure to Bangkok. Luckily, there were many people transferring to that flight, so that the pilot held the plane.
I made it through customs without any problem and now had to wait…..and wait….and wait…..it was midnight, my next plane didn’t leave until 7:10am.
That is where I am now, just waiting. I got my baggage checked, which they charged me an extra 3167.20 baht for. About double the price of the actually ticket, because online they only allow you to check one bag. But if you check it at the gate, they charge you per pound and also made me check my carry on. I thought Thailand was supposed to be cheap?
There is such a mixing of cultures and religions here it is unfathomable. Buddhist monks in their robes next to a Muslim prayer room, European backpackers, and an overwhelming fashion trend of pastel pants on Thai men, and American middle aged men, LOTS of American middle aged men. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt that they are here on business, but with their shorts and button up shirts that are opened at the top, that is doubtful, and without a family with them, it’s not hard to let my imagination run and think they could only be here for one other thing….sex tourism
As much as I’m repulsed looking of them and knowing that at least one of the men I passed is here for that, this is my life now, I better get a stomach for it and hold my temper, and my tongue (which will be hard, lol).
